Item Description
11x17" sheet of "DC Comics" thin artboard has 9.25x13.5" India ink image area. Detailed angry Batman w/long ears stands in front of brick wall w/hand-lettered "The Bat-Man" title and wanted posters for The Joker, The Penguin, Scarecrow, and Poison Ivy. Bottom of scene has newspapers blowing in breeze w/headlines including "Bruce Wayne Missing, Chief Gordon On Case, Breakout At Arkham Asylum." Signed in ink at lower right "Kelley Jones - 95 -." Exc. Kelley Jones is a comic book artist best known for his runs on "Batman" w/writer Doug Moench and on "Sandman" w/writer Neil Gaiman. Jones did a few Batman projects in 1993 before becoming the regular "Batman" artist in 1995, around the time this art was created. Jones stayed on the title until 1998, and his run is considered one of the most definitive of the 1990s. Wonderful ink work. From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection and comes with COA.
This piece was created for the July, 1995 issue of "Overstreet's Fan" magazine (issue #2), which featured a "Jonesin' For the Bat" feature interview w/Kelley Jones.
