Item Description
This is a scarce and very popular box 5.5x6.75x3.25" tall with fold up lid. Paper stripes on panel edges show crossed sabers and repeat the words "Rough Riders." Box underside missing a few inches of this paper but over 90% complete in total. Box underside stamped "Factory No. 159/1st Dist. Pa/50." Tax stamp on lid and side panel is "Series Of 1901." This has scratches and lost paper but 70% complete. The label on the right end of box has scattered loss of color including a white line across Roosevelt's eyes. Label margin reads: "Title And Design Owned By E.M. Schwarz & Co. N.Y." Label is complete but only in Fair condition. Outer box lid, accented in gold, mostly intact, shows horse head with large title around "Rough Riders" flanked by six standing rifles with bayonets. The label inside the lid is still Fine with only a trace of moisture stain at bottom edge to .25" depth and a few random tiny dots of age. Colors are strong. Scene shows TR, saber held high, racing forward with foam coming from the mouth of his horse Little Texas. Lower right corner has applied, perforated edges, extremely rare stamp in green with text "Member Cigar Dealers Association Of America" plus tiny signatures of president and secretary. Box interior has paper liner with light overall tanning and a moisture spot in back bottom corner about 1x2". Overall, VG and with primary feature of inner label still displaying very nicely. One recent auction result for this rare box was in the $1,600.00 range.
