Item Description
5.25x9.5x4" deep wooden box has embossed title/image of Yellow Kid smoking cigar w/smoke coming out of ears and additional cigars in shirt pocket. Lid has applied paper yellow night shirt w/text reading "Say! Dis Is Me Offishal Segar Wot I Does Me Tricks Wit. See Me Smokin Wit Me Ears." 1.5" wide paper bank stamp band at left side of box. Box opens to show nice full color "The Yellow Kid" label w/full color R.F. Outcault illustration on underside of lid. In addition to this image, there is "Sunday New York Journal" cartoon showing Yellow Kid shooting bird off wire as girl sits on crate marked "10,000 Yellow Kid Cigars." His shirt reads "Say! Heres Where I Make A Hit." Label printed by Orcutt Co. Yellow Kid inside end papers are present but papers for front and back panels are for the most part missing. Outside of box has embossed "Yellow Kid – See!" text/cigar name. Full color label on front panel of box shows repeat image of him smoking w/no shirt text. Right side exterior panel has repeat full color partial image of him as seen on underside of lid. Labels show wear w/chips though smaller label on front panel is almost 100% complete. VF. Yellow Kid image on top of lid is Fine, underside is Exc. Box is VG overall. Classic art and great design issued in 1896, the first year of this character's emergence. Rare.
