Item Description
Hake #158. 1.25” with name of maker on curl Philadelphia Badge Co. Button’s red text reads “Mitchell Day Oct. 29, 1936.” Mitchell Day was celebrated annually by Pennsylvania coal miners on various dates each year to honor the memory of the early president of the United Mine Workers who led their fight for the 8-hour day. This button pictures “Franklin D. Roosevelt,” Pennsylvania governor “Geo. H. Earle” and then president of the United Mine Workers “John L. Lewis.” Button has about eight exceedingly tiny and faint gray dots on outer edge. Also, as printed, are four hairlines of either red or black color extending up from the shield corners and top of the ovals. Still a Fine example perfectly centered and with full gloss. Our last with significantly darker dots as printed exceeded $300.00.
