Item Description
Lot of three items from 3-day concert event held June 16-18, 1967 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, CA. Crowd estimates for the festival ranged from 50,000-90,000 people, who congregated in and around the festival grounds. The festival is remembered for the first major American appearances by Jimi Hendrix (where he lit his guitar on fire), The Who and Ravi Shankar as well as the first large-scale public performance by Janis Joplin and the introduction of Otis Redding to a large, predominantly white audience. The Monterey Pop Festival embodied the theme of California as a focal point for the counterculture and is generally regarded as one of the beginnings of the "Summer of Love" in 1967 and became the template for future music festivals, notably the Woodstock Festival two years later. Offered here is an original first printing 12.25x21-3/8" concert poster w/stunning reflective foil design that incorporates photo image of Mata Hari-like performer wearing necktie w/Pan character/mascot of the festival. Poster has some lt. corner tip wear w/.5" crease at lower right corner, but reflective foil surface hides this somewhat. Displays Exc. Poster has been professionally matted and is ready for framing and display. Poster's mat includes opening at bottom center to display 1-3/8x3-5/8" original ticket for June 18, 1967. Ticket is No. 291 and is marked "Stage Front." NM. Comes w/3.5x4" embossed business card meant to be folded in half. Card has Los Angeles offices address as well as name of Alan Pariser, the festival's "Production Supervisor." Front of card features repeat Pan illustration from poster as well as psychedelic festival logo. Card is unfolded though it does have some creasing at corner. Fine.
