On October 3, 1935 Italian forces invaded and occupied Ethiopia, in the face of international condemnation. The country had been independent for 2000 years until the Italian invasion when 20th century weapons forced them into temporary submission and the annexation of their country by Italy in 1936. Front of the piece pictures the Italian king with Italian text that translates to "Vittorio Emanuele III, King Of Italy, Emperor Of Ethiopia."
