Item Description
Brass pin is 5/8" by Greenduck with very high relief portrait on the front showing him but not naming him with surrounding text "National Negro Congress/Sponsor 1938." Comes with 8.5x11" "Souvenir Program Of The Eastern Regional Conference National Negro Congress October 7-8-9, 1938." 28 pages plus covers for event held at Elks Home, Baltimore, Md. Some dust soil and small marks over the covers and small dust traces on the margin of the first page. Program begins with title page that includes a long quotation from Douglass from August 4, 1857. There is a 2x1.5" moisture mark on the top margin of this page and it continues on following pages getting progressively smaller and lighter. Numerous full page photos of group leaders including A. Phillip Randolph, National President. Pages include program of events, listings of panel discussions along with names of many speakers who include Rev. Adam Powell on the subject of "The Campaign For Jobs For Negros In Private Industry." Several pages of sponsor ads at the back. Last page has full-page announcement plus photo with title "The Negro People Of America Are Sending This Ambulance To The People Of Republican Spain On The American Relief Ship For Spain In October." Overall badge is Exc. and program is VG. Both rare pieces.
