Item Description
3.5x7x2" deep tin litho bank produced in Germany by Saalheimer and Strauss, c. 1920s. Bank is marked "Bavaria" along w/company logo a double "S" in a circle. Front of bank has high relief Bonzo head w/lever below this w/images of his paws underneath. Text at bottom reads "Press The Lever Lightly, Watch My Tongue Appear; Save A Penny Nightly, Make Your Fortune Here." Bank works and Bonzo extends his tongue for placement of a coin and his eyes also move. Great illustration on bank of Bonzo holding a coin while standing in front of a table which holds an example of this very bank. Sides of bank feature geometric designs. Underside has trap door but missing key. Bank has scattered aging and paint nicks, mostly along edges. .25" paint rub to tip of Bonzo's nose. One paw on front has some lt. oxidation as does one side panel. Still glossy and Fine. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
