Item Description
3.75x10x6.25" tall painted cast iron mechanical bank designed by Charles A. Bailey of Cobalt, CT. and manufactured by J.E. Stevens Co. of Cromwell, CT. c. 1890. Bank features stereotypical depiction of African-American man eating watermelon in donkey cart. When coin is placed under feet of driver and lever is pressed, African-American boy jumps out from behind bush, scaring donkey, who rears up, knocking man and cart backwards, depositing coin. 80% paint remains. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
