Item Description
First is 1.25" real photo button with tabbed on rope brass rim that has two darker tarnish marks. Reverse metal back suspends ribbon reading "Souvenir Children's Day July 15th, 1903." Text on the button reads "Musical Leaders/Willow Grove Park 1903." Pictured are eight musicians who appeared at the park in that era. At the center is Sousa. Clockwise from the top are also: Herbert, Clarke, Creatore, Conway, Pinto, Robinson, Phasey. Three or four pinpoint age dots of little consequence. Rare and historic. Second is a 7/8" button showing Sousa in his later years. Rim reads "Band Booster/Sousa Auditorium." Back paper from a New York firm. Next is 1.75" with text "I'm Going To Hear 'Roney's Boys' Are You?" Reverse has blank but original back paper. Shown is musical director Roney with five young musicians in Scottish kilts. A famous group from Chicago at the turn of the century. Next is 1.5" showing a piano at the center surrounded by five portraits with text "The Great Musicians Endorse Newcomb Pianos." That advertising slogan is a bit of a stretch as not all of these men could have possibly provided such an endorsement. They are from left to right: Paderewski, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Wagner. Couple of pinpoint age dots on the rim. Has a back paper also with advertising text promoting the brand. From the early 1900s. Next is 1.5" with rim text "Department Of Parks/Song And Light Concert, Aug. 16-1917." Back paper by Bastian. NM displaying Mint. Rare. Last is 1.75" with back paper by St. Louis Button Co. However, the color scene on the front which is a paper applied beneath the celluloid covering has the inscription of the company W&H. The paper is from the early 1900s but this button would have been assembled c.1940s. Except as noted condition is Exc. to Mint. The one for Roney's Boys is scarce while the others are rare. See mirror for Conn Instruments #614.
