Item Description
Numerous variations exist for this kit and its various pieces (this lot consists of seven items, including envelope). All items in this lot are from 1942, the first year/first issue of the club. The only discrepancy is the mailing envelope which is referred to as 1943 issue in the Hake Guide, but it is now believed to have been used in 1942 as well. Envelope was postally issued and shows scattered wear as such. Fine. Club letter is variant that mentions the badge (missing). Has facsimile signature of "Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) Secretary." 2.5" corner crease and small margin tears. VG/Fine. 8.5x11" certificate is variant that mentions "Americans/Democracy" (in all caps). Has 13 DC Comics character images including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern. Unused and blank as issued. Exc. 4" dia. cardboard decoder is variant w/names matching the characters shown on the certificate. Penciled name/address. VF/Exc. The remaining war-related material includes - three M.C. Gaines items- "Youth And The War Effort" brochure, "The Minute Man Answers The Call" four-page comic book (both are ©1942 versions) and "School Defensive Clubs For Victory" letter. All paper items are in choice Exc. condition. Kit was sent to female recipient as noted on envelope and decoder wheel. Other than missing badge, kit is complete. See following item #2495.
