3-7/8x7.5" envelope w/Jan. 6, 1992 New York, NY. postmark has printed "MAD" return address w/Alfred E. Neuman portrait image. Envelope is hand-addressed to Joel Frieman of Argosy Communications, a company that specialized in Golden Age pulp heroes. Envelope is Exc. Contains 4x6" sheet w/stamped "MAD" letterhead and hand-written letter in blue ink from MAD's published William "Bill" Gaines. In the letter, Gaines references progress on a comic book Frieman is working on that featured art by George Evans. Letter ends w/Gaines thanking Frieman for writing and is signed "Bill Gaines." Folded at center as mailed. Exc. Comes w/Gaines' personal 1970s "MAD" business card, noting him as "Publisher & Chief Bigot." Exc.
