Item Description
9x12" unpaginated hardcover w/title page and 30 plates depicting african americans at times stereotypically and at other times quite sympathetically. Book features "A Collection Of Southern Sketches" by Edward Windsor Kemble, illustrator of Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn." Twain saw Kemble's work and hired the artist to illustrate his books. Kemble went on to illustrate "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and other books. Published by R.H. Russell & Son in 1897. Covers show lt. wear and even aging w/some corner foxing. Fine. Contents remains clean and NM. Scarce book.
