This large and impressive 23" tall marionette is No. 5 of a limited edition of an unknown quantity produced for The Walt Disney Company by Bob Baker Marionettes. High quality marionette has composition head and feet w/fur accents and is garbed in high quality fabric outfit and holds wooden-handled dog catcher's net. Pete wears a felt hat w/"Dog Catcher" on the front of it, as this is how he appeared in the 1932 animated short "The Mad Dog." Complete w/plastic controller unit and original strings. Controller unit has attached brass engraved plaque that reads "Peg Leg Pete No. 5 Made Exclusively For The Walt Disney Company By The Bob Baker Marionettes." Underside of Pete's remaining foot has Disney copyright and hand-numbered "#5" in black felt tip pen. Marionette has some lt. dust soiling, is o/w NM. Comes w/original box, original cardboard shipping sleeve (which shows wear), illustrated instruction sheet, brochure flyer showing other Disney marionettes by Bob Baker and an illustrated sheet on the history of Peg Leg Pete. Sheets are VF/Exc. Box has original $500 price sticker and "Bob Baker Marionettes" label. Paper label on end has stamped name and hand-lettered matching number. Scattered corner creases but VF overall. Extremely high quality marionette, few were made, possibly due to the high cost of materials and the time-consuming nature of producing such a large marionette. Extremely rare.
