Item Description
17x22" thin artboard features Bob Montana original pen and ink art for Aug. 1942 issue of "Pep Comics" #30. This is a very early piece of Archie art as the character had just debuted in "Pep Comics" #22 (Dec. 1941). Nine-panel page is the fifth in a series of six pages from "The Escort Agency" storyline, which features Archie (poorly disguised in a long beard) on a date w/his long-suffering teacher Miss Grundy. Archie arrives at Miss Grundy's home, only to have his beard pulled by her dog before they leave for a Latin restaurant. Archie makes some underhanded snide comments and asks her about herself. She tells him she's a teacher and likes it "Except For A Little Snip Named Archie" while she twirls her finger in his beard before yanking him to the dance floor to conga. "Pep Comics Aug - 1942" stamp at top w/scattered pencil editorial notations in margins. First panel has some white correctional fluid touch-ups, but o/w art is all original. Margins have some scattered dust soiling and handling wear but art areas remain clean and if matted, would display VF. While original Montana strip art is somewhat common, older Archie-related comic pages such as this one are quite scarce. A prime early example.
