Item Description
Esterbrook dipping pen, 6.25" long, used by JFK April 23, 1963 to sign H.R. 4715 incorporating the Eleanor Roosevelt Foundation. Kennedy preferred dipping pens to sign legislation into law and this model features a point reading "Esterbrook 2668", a black plastic grip and a clear Lucite barrel with gold incised inscription "The President-The White House." Pen point has tiny trace of ink and pen is Essentially Mint. Comes in plain tan, original, 1x7x5/8" deep cardboard box with the following day's date "April 24, 1963" inked on the lid. Also included is 8.5x14" sheet with 15 horizontal folds as it was stored with the pen in the box. Paper is tanned and has 1.5" tear at top and bottom mostly on margins. Sheet is two sided transcript of remarks and headlined "For Immediate Release, April 23, 1963/Office Of The White House Press Secretary." At the 4/23/63 ceremony, Ambassador Adlai Stevenson made introductory remarks about this legislation to honor Eleanor Roosevelt who passed in Fall, 1962 by establishing a foundation to carry on her works. President Kennedy then spoke followed by family member Franklin Roosevelt, Jr. Among those present were labor leaders Walter Reuther and George Meany, members of Congress, The Speaker Of The House and Congressman Celler, the author of the bill. The sheet is VG. Items come with a Letter Of Provenance from JFK White House Aide Jerry Bruno who states: "At The Bill Signing Ceremony The President Gave Me The Pen After The Signing." Jerry Bruno Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
