Item Description
11x17" thin cardboard sheet has tanning on bottom left 1.75x6" and bottom right 2.75" wide tapering upward 8". Issued by the Soho news, the text reads "Reward $1000/For Information/Leading To Return/Of This Child Call/Soho Weekly News/431-3150." On May 25, 1979, the six year old left his Soho apartment in NYC to walk two blocks, for the first time by himself, to catch his school bus. He never reached the bus stop and an intensive search lasted for weeks. His disappearance inspired the Missing Children's Movement and he was the first ever missing child to be pictured on the side of a milk carton. The day of his disappearance, May 25, was designated National Missing Children's Day by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. Etan was declared dead in 2001. The case was reopened May 25, 2010 and on December 12, 2012 a N.Y. Grand Jury indicted Pedro Hernandez on kidnapping and murder charges.
