Item Description
He may be the most iconic original Western figure in American culture. Considering the incredible number of Western heroes represented in cinema, radio, and any other medium you choose, that’s saying a lot. The Ranger was essentially created by two men. The first, George W. Trendle had the money and the briefest of ideas. The second, Fran Striker, was a free-lance scriptwriter from Buffalo who had worked on another show that Trendle had liked. . Striker took Trendle’s outline (which had actually been built through several staff meetings at Trendle’s radio station), and ran with the concept. From there, the Ranger conquered radio, comic strips, film and almost every possible commercial communication medium. At one point, the Lone Ranger was the most listed-to radio program in the United States. That awareness translated well into comics. One of the stand-out features of the book was the way the writers adhered to a solid and time-accurate continuity. Dell had tremendous success when the Ranger appeared under in both the Large Feature Books and the Four Color title. They gave the Ranger his own title in 1948 and it ran until July 1962. So much of the Ranger mythos has entered the mainstream consciousness that it is impossible to even begin to list here. This issue contains the first appearance of the Indian Boy serial. The pages are white. This unrestored book is CGC-certified 9.4 (NM). According to the CGC Census this is the highest graded copy they have seen. It is also recognized as part of the Mile High Pedigree.
