Item Description
The button is a 1" litho pinned to the 3.5x5-3/8" unused postcard. South Carolina Governor Strom Thurmond defected from the Democratic party in 1948 to launch his own third party campaign with his VP candidate Mississippi Governor Fielding Wright. The ticket carried four southern states and received 39 electoral votes but did not stop President Truman from winning a second term. Card has some very minor creasing at lower center right and near the upper left edge. It remains extremely clean although would have a pair of pinholes if the button were removed. These same photos appear on a rare jugate 1.25" button which has a Hake guide value of $4,930.00. There is a second paper small piece listed as Hake #2181 but other than those two jugates this only the third small format jugate we know of for these candidates. The button on this jugate card is NM displaying Mint. Pair.
