Item Description
Original illustrated cardboard box contains 9.25" dia. tin litho toy w/built-in key and die-cut cardboard insert scene strip at center. Popeye is seen in the plane which circles overhead when attached to center post. Cardboard insert has amusing lithograph w/Olive Oyl, Swee'Pea, Wimpy and barking dog chasing a motorcycle policeman w/ticket in hand. Marx, licensed by King Features Syndicate. 1935. Train circles the outer ring of the base. Each train car roof has character name - Wimpy, Sappo, Olive Oyl and Swee'Pea w/lithographed heads of the figures at windows. Wimpy and Sappo and lettering that reads "Hamburgers" are shown on the tunnels. Tunnels shows moderate wear w/traces of base metal showing. Rest of toy has lt. scattered wear. Fine. Airplane w/die-cut tin litho Popeye pilot figure shows wear w/tiny crack to propeller. Fine. Box is missing bottom panel and one inner flap and has obvious handling wear along sides. Good/VG. Rare w/box.
