Item Description
First is .75" real photo with union bug back stamp. Text is in Yiddish or Hebrew with date of 1938, one year before his death. Olgin in his early years joined a student revolutionary group which later became the Kiev branch of the Jewish Labor Bund. In 1915 he moved to New York City and became one of the founders of the Workers' (Communist) Party in 1922. He was a Communist Party National Committee member for many years. He was also one of the founders of the Communist Yiddish Daily Freiheit and became its editor until his death. The second button in this group showing the hammer and sickle relates to this newspaper and was probably issued to encourage readership. This piece is 11/16". Also included is a second litho dated "1922/1937" celebrating the 15th anniversary of the newspaper. The lithos have minor paint wear while the real photo portrait button is Mint.
