Item Description
Large 2-5/8" tall silver luster brass badge from the early 1940s with text below engineering symbol building "U.S. Engineer Office/Manhattan Dist." With word "Guard" above and serial number "334" below. A little brass shows through mostly on lower half but still with most of the blue paint accenting the inscription still intact. The office was located on Madison Square in New York City. This very limited issue badge is associated with the critical secret security for the beginning of the development of the Atomic Bomb, issued prior to the later construction of project sites in Oak Ridge (see previous item) Los Alamos and Hanford. Rare and historical. See following two related items.
