Item Description
In May 1939 the first issue of Wonder Comics included a Wonder Man story by Will Eisner. This proved to be the character's only appearance as the result of a lawsuit claiming the character was a copy of Superman. The comic book carries an ad for a ring and we believe this is the ring offered, although we have never actually seen the comic book ad. In the third edition of the Overstreet ring guide, he shows a ring with the same band designs as this one although it appears the initial on the ring shown in his book is an "H" whereas on this ring the initial is "W", if held on way or an "M" if held opposite. The initial was likely customized to match the name of the person ordering. The inner surfaces of the adjustable bands on this example carry a letter "U" and two tiny arrow designs which are the trademark of the prolific premium ring making company Uncas. The ring as now shaped has a small diameter and would fit a young child with a ring size "5." On the ring top only a few traces of black enamel paint accent remains. The geometric designs at the top of each band do match the version of the ring shown in Overstreet. About a half dozen examples with similar design are known in the hobby.
