Item Description
Two illustrated cardboard window boxes contain 8.25" tall puppets w/soft vinyl heads and cloth bodies. Made by Jay V. Zimmerman Co. under "Zany Toy" name. © Kagran, c. 1950s. Offered here are Howdy Doody and Clarabell, each w/name stamped across the front of their respective box. Boxes are missing their original cellophane windows and have scattered lt. wear. Howdy Doody's box has four .5" tears at window corners. VG/Fine. Clarabell has one .5" tear. Fine overall. Puppet heads have slight tackiness w/lt. wear and aging. Fine/VF overall. Comes w/9.5x20.25x3.5" deep shipping carton for "'Zany' Theatre Set" for use w/the puppets in this lot. Box has illustrated label which has 1x2" piece missing at right side and is heavily aged/soiled. Box shows obvious wear/aging but has been newly shrink-wrapped and displays nicely as is. VG. Rare. The two puppets mentioned above were sold individually as boxed, their boxes serving as theaters. As a bonus, lot comes w/page from Playthings catalog showing these puppets. Different puppets/stage from those by Peter Puppet Playthings, item #1955.
