Item Description
10x15.5" artboard w/attached paper overlay has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for a 1970s Lindberg 1/48 scale motorized model kit featuring the US Navy's dominant fighter during the Pacific Theater of World War II. The F6F was best known for its role as a rugged, well-designed carrier fighter which was able, after its combat debut in early 1943, to counter the Mitsubishi A6M Zero and help secure air superiority over the Pacific Theater. Such was the quality of the straightforward design, that the Hellcat was the least modified fighter of the war, w/a total of 12,200 built in just over two years. Art shows a Hellcat marked w/skull and crossbones art and the name "Dottie II" flying above the Japanese aircraft carrier Zuiho. Zuiho was sank by a group of Allied aircraft that included Hellcats in 1944 during The Battle of Leyte Gulf. Art is unsigned. Image area measures 9x14.25". Margins have some aging and left margin has pinholes that could be easily matted out. Art is NM and would look stunning framed. Impressive model kit art.
