Item Description
20x27" artboard w/attached "Pyro Plastics Corporation" paper overlay has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for 1960s Pyro Plastics 1/96 scale model kit No. C247-398 featuring a Russian spy ship disguised as a fishing trawler. In the early 1960s, the appearance of the Russian "fishing fleet" loaded w/sensors to track US missile tests/fleet communications, raised Cold War concerns. Art shows the ship w/two submerged submarines in bkg., both launching ballistic missiles. Sailor on the ship's deck watches another ballistic missile launch at left. Another submerged submarine can be partially seen in foreground. Art is signed by A.J. Rudisill, an internationally-acclaimed artist whose original acrylic paintings of landscapes and seascapes have been exhibited at major galleries throughout the country. Earlier in his career Rudisill provided stunning model kit box art, such as this one offered here. Large image area measures 16x24.5". Art has some aging along top margin but would look Exc. if framed. Impressive model kit art.
