Item Description
6" tall figure constructed mostly of wood plus stiff rope arms, stiff cord tail and rubber-covered fabric ears. Front of body has near complete "Mickey Mouse" decal w/1928-1930 Disney copyright. Page 49 of "The Disneyana Book" by Munsey shows the original sketch for this toy by Disney artist Burt Gillette and notes it was the first toy distributed by George Borgfeldt & Co. in 1930. Tail is attached to a metal lever and this is pushed down, causing Mickey's head to rise into the air about .5". Tail is complete w/wooden knob tip. Decal has a few tiny flakes/rubs but is nearly 100% complete. Nose is an expertly crafted replacement that very closely matches the original. Ears have moderate wear w/cracking to rubber surface. Scattered paint wear to white areas of face (mainly on/by nose) and black area by neck. Overall still Fine. We have only offered a few of these in our 47 years and they typically sell in the $2,000 range (even w/replacement pieces). Rare, historic and a must have for any Disneyana collection. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
