Item Description
The first and larger at 3x7" is "Napoleon Francis Joseph Charles (1811-1832/Napoleon's Only Legal Son." This text is inked on reverse margin of paper covered reverse, a page from an old book with Latin text. Front has convex glass with brass frame over oval hand painted portrait about 2.75x3.5". Surrounding ivory panels have some stress hairlines with 1/16" wide by .75" tall open gap above portrait. Portrait outer edge has cloudiness from 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock going inward no more than 3/16". A tiny bit of color loss on bottom right of his cape. Vast majority displays Mint. We do not see a signature on this one. The bottom side edge is missing a strip of ivory veneer. All else is intact. Original wire loop at top. Next at 4.5x5.5" is Beethoven with his name inked on reverse margin of old German text book page serving as back paper. Original loop and moveable ring at top for hanging. Ivory surrounding recessed portrait has some stress hairlines, but all intact. Brass frame with repeating flower pattern holds convex glass over the hand painted portrait of Beethoven holding pen and music sheet. Small signature on right background "Stieler" a well-known German artist. Portrait is based on larger oil on canvas titled: "Beethoven Composing His Missa Solemnis" done in 1820 and probably the most well know portrait of Beethoven. NOTE: These items contain African elephant ivory and may only be sold within the United States.
