Item Description
17x24" complete "Home" edition with "46 Pages." Sub-head reads "Jubilant Victor Chants Refrain: 'I'm Just Happy!'" plus article titled "Dewey Asks For Unity As He Concedes" and much additional election news. Back page has seven large photos of Truman, Barkley, Gov. Elect Stevenson and others under headline "President Truman And Sen. Barkley Elected-Hilarity And Friendliness Mark Celebrations." While lightly tanned, the paper mostly remains supple except along the spine which is brittle, flaking and many pages with a full or partial vertical split. Interior pages have a few random tears of 1-2". The front fold line has 1" line at center with tiny tears but still complete. Both the front and back full pages display well and the spine chips and small tears go inward little more than .25". While copies of paper declaring Dewey the victor were preserved in their day as a curiosity, this "Truman Wins" issue was much less likely to be saved. Over the years we've offered or seen about a dozen of the error headline but this our first example of this Thursday, Nov 4, 1948 issue.
