Item numbers 989 through 2633 in auction 212
Item Description
9.25x12" high quality silver gelatin news service photo shows Boris Karloff in the titular role from the 1932 Pre-Code adventure film featuring Boris Karloff as Fu Manchu and Myrna Loy as his daughter. The movie revolves around Fu Manchu's quest for the sword and mask of Genghis Khan. The film is widely considered the best of the Fu Manchu films produced in the 1930s. Photo shows Karloff standing behind vast array of laboratory equipment, w/beakers and various liquid-filled vials arranged around a skull which can be seen at center. Photo was likely taken by Clarence Bull, who served as the film's photographer. Reverse has "Return To Library - Property Of Photoplay Magazine" inkstamp as well as typed strip of paper reading "Boris Karloff In His Laboratory As The Sinister 'Dr. Fu Manchu' In Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's 'The Mask Of Fu Manchu'" attached. Photo has had slight trim to border margin and trace of wear to photo surface but if framed, this stunning image would make for a wonderful display.
