Item Description
4.75" tall by 5" long sold cast iron figure of elephant w/its trunk raised and blanket on its back. Sold as a souvenir at "Benson's Wild Animal Farm" as indicated by incised text on side of blanket. Benson's Wild Animal Farm was a long-running private zoo and amusement park in Nashua, NH. Founded by John Benson in 1924 as an animal-training center, it was opened to the public in 1926 w/animal exhibits, a miniature train, games and other exhibits. It closed in 1987, after having been renamed New England Playworld for its final year. Elephant dates to the late 1920s and came in various color combinations. This example features orange elephant w/lt. blue blanket. Underside of two feet have threaded holes as if designed to be mounted to something, but wear on feet indicate this example was sold as is. Figure has some scattered paint wear and all-over aging. Fine overall.
