Auction #185 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 945 in auction 185
Item Description
Nicely colored rare and early example of a litho tin button with cardboard back insert holding paper on fabric ribbon, now missing a stickpin from reverse top. Ribbon reverse has firmly glued-on piece of black felt that causes no problem, but shouldn't be there. Original owner's pencil note on cardboard of button reads "Peace At 12 O'clock Sunday Night Nov. 10, 1918." Button front has 8 paint dots off, none larger than 1/16". Four are clustered by very shallow .25" indent on his forehead. Light surface ripples at base of ribbon. All is clean and litho retains most gloss. Unlisted in Hake. Vaguely recall seeing button without ribbon in DeWitt collection many years ago but first we've seen offered for auction.
