Item Description
This rarity, probably less than ten known, is Hake #2004 and is also pictured on the back book cover of Hake Political Buttons 1920-1976. This button carries a Hake 2004 Guide value of $8,250.00. The example from the collection of Coolidge specialist Larry Krug realized $12,600.00 in 2005. The lightly stained Broyles Collection example (the one shown in the Hake guide) realized $7,170.00 in 2010. Like all but two or three examples, this one shows some age as these were displayed as license plate attachments. The reverse metal back has four small holes holding thin wires (which are present) to use for attachment. This example has an added hole (1/16" with 1/8" indent) at the top through the "N" of "Candidates." There are faint tan rim marks between 9 and 11 o'clock but the upper 70% out of the entire surface is overall very clean. Towards the bottom between 5 and 8 o'clock there is color fade and tan stain to a depth of .5". The side edge, not showing on the front, has a thin layer of gray paint on about 50% of the curled celluloid back edge. The front celluloid surface has a few tiny pinpoint marks and a few light hairline scratches but these are minor and just show in reflected light. The button retains its full gloss. Julie Powell Collection.
