Item Description
The third and sixth are litho. Group begins with "I Gave To Free Gastonia Prisoners." This relates to a violent 1929 strike at a southern state textile mill moved there by the northern business men owners looking for cheaper labor than in New England. They implemented what was called the "Stretch-Out", a practice of requiring more work in the same time period with out raising (and often reducing) pay. The violence in this North Carolina town resulted in the death of the chief of police and two textile workers. Next with light age tone is "Save The Cloak Makers Union/Buy A Bond." Next is "Build The Young Worker" with man carrying red flag. Next has initials of the Communist related organization International Labor Defense. We don't know exactly what this relates to but the additional text is "Shifrin-Mineola Defense." Next is worn litho reading "I Gave/National Miners' Relief Committee." Last is very badly worn but still readable as "Help Mobilize The Young Workers For The Struggle." Center has partial image of a man with good bit of paint off to the left and details removed at the top of his head. Most lettering can be made out except the word "The" below his image. The Gastonia button is NM displaying Mint while the rest are as described. Many rarities.
