Item Description
Although not indicated on the button it was likely issued by the group International Labor Defense, a legal arm of the Communist Party USA. Norris was one of the Scottsboro Boys arrested in Alabama in 1931. Between 1931 and 1938 he was sentenced to the electric chair three different times. This button was issued at some point during the legal case probably closer to 1938 than 1931. During the 1940s Norris was paroled and fled two different times with the case eventually coming to a close in 1976 when he was pardoned by Alabama Governor George Wallace. Trivial wear, the worst a 1/32" hairline scratch at top. Glossy and Exc. Rare.
