Item numbers 1 through 988 in auction 212
Item Description
Button sizes are 11/16" to 1-1/8" with the rest of the pieces to scale. Group begins with a brass medal suspended from a ribbon with pin. Front reads "R.M.S. 'Mauretania' Built On The Merseyside 1937-1939." Reverse text "This Medallion Is Made From Metal From The Old 'Mauretania' 1906-1935." NM with just a little luster loss. The next 15 buttons were used for Sunday School rally days. Those in the top row depict the ocean liners Lusitania, Mauretania, and Aquitania. Several of these have ranks which we have not seen before and these are "Second Mate", "Purser", and "Captain." The next six buttons are litho tin also used for rally days. Next comes a group of 24 ship worker's union monthly dues buttons. Three of these have crazing. Most are from the 1940s with a few earlier and a few into the 1950s. Next are 20 metal items plus one fiber board tag at the end of row six. This was issued by "U.S. Lines" and has a serial number with text "Seamen's Identification." In the first row of the metal items is an 1893 Colombian half dollar with rainbow patina. Next is early 1900s watch fob showing an ironclad ship. Next is medal made from Admiral Dewey's flag ship U.S.S. Olympia. Many of the other pieces name a specific ship or ship line. Among the more interesting of these in the bottom row is a brass token "Commemorating Maiden Voyage S.S. Normandy" from 1935. Vast majority of the items are Exc. to Mint.
