Item Description
Button sizes are 1.25" to 1.75". Group begins with one from 1898 reading "Compliments Chief Granger" complete with W&H back paper. Next is brass badge "Souvenir Firemen's Celebration." Undated but early 1900s. Next 1896 button promotes "The Chief Ale/Granger & Gregg Brewing Co./Hudson Cream Ale." Has W&H back paper. Some small dark dots on the reverse but only a few extremely tiny tan dots along the outer edge on the front. Full gloss. Next is silvered brass with post and screw cap on reverse. Issued for "Fire Marshal/Saratoga Springs, N.Y." c. 1930s. Next at center is pre-WWII button reading "Home Defense And Fire Prevention Week 1941." Collet holds ribbon. Next is metal badge with threaded post on reverse. Reads "Rockaway Point Vol Fire Dept." This is from the fire company established in 1914 that served the beachfront communities of Rockaway Point and Breezy Point which took such a terrible beating during Hurricane Sandy. Next is button urging "8 Hour Day" and another showing young folks moving baskets of trash to a "rubbish" container with slogan "Fight Fire With Forethought." Last is a "Fire Men" white metal badge probably issued by Tootsie Toy but not carrying their name although the reverse is marked "Occupied Japan" and this is the type of badge enclosed with many of their toy sets. Buttons are Exc. to Mint with minor exceptions as noted.
