Item Description
First on original 3-7/8" card is "Welcome/Admiral Geo. W. Dewey" ribbon badge with medallion. Card top has rectangular stain and center has small damaged area caused by the ring suspending the medal. Bottom reads "Made By The Schwaab Stamp & Seal Co. Milwaukee." Reverse shows Olympia. NM luster. Second, also a ribbon badge, has "Souvenir" bar with ribbon suspending choice color portrait of Dewey with a covered tin reverse naming the maker W&H. Essentially Mint. Next is "Our Hero" a 1-11/16" tall finely cast white metal badge featuring his bust with the caption in die-cut letters below. Reverse pin has small bend to one side but otherwise Mint and rare. Next in top row is die-cut brass with most luster intact reading "New York Welcomes Dewey." Next in bottom row is 1-3/8" bronze luster medallion with loop on top. Front text "Reception Of Admiral Dewey By The City Of New York 1899." Reverse has nude female figure with large wings holding a long trumpet to her mouth with one hand and a wreath with the other. Tiny image of Dewey's ship in the background and date of 1899 below. Two tiny flat spots on the rim edge which are very minor. Last shows Dewey's Olympia beneath his quotation "You May Fire When You Are Ready, Gridley." Reverse reads "Made From Propeller Of Admiral Dewey's Flagship Which Served In The Battle Of Manila Bay May 1, 1898." This piece is from the earlier years of the 20th century. NM. A very nice group.
