Item Description
1.25" with the image as an illustration but printed on photographic paper so there is no dot screen. Soldier in foreground looks at rail car containing a man and a horse with text on the car side "40 Hommes/8 Chevaux." Just below this is a copyright symbol and a date 1922 followed by the numerals "40" over a number "8." The group began only two years before this copyright date when Joseph Breen and 15 other American Legion WWI vets came together and founded it as an honor society for certain Legion members. The group name referred to boxcars used in France to transport 40 men or 8 horses and they were seen by the troops as a miserable way to travel. The group name was taken in an attempt to make light of the common misery these men had shared during the war. Only example we have seen. NM displaying Mint.
