Item Description
Lot consists of three artboards, each 8.75x20" wide w/16 individual printed paste-ups w/"Andy Gump For President" text reversed for color separation use and/or to produce film that would have the text not on reverse. Additional artboard is 4.5x5-1/8" w/same design as larger proofs but image is reversed and has text "Andy Gump His Life Story $1.00" w/additional text "Read My Book" printed paste-ups. c. mid-1920s-1930s. Artboards have scattered lt. dust soiling but image areas are Fine/VF. 11x11-5/8" thin artboard has 10-1/8" dia. ink border w/6x6" thin artboard applied to center w/art of The Nebbs family. Signed at bottom by writer/artist Sol Hess and W.A. Carlson. Lower right has hand-lettered "Mfrd. By Parisian Novelty Co., Chicago, Sole Licensees" text. Attached partial tissue overlay has been hand-colored as guide. We are unsure if this particular art was used, but from a 1930s series of character mirrors. Sides have some lt. dust soiling, image area Exc. From the Parisian Novelty Co. of Chicago archives.
