Item Description
27.5x40" frame contains 24x36" original pastel art by "Rat Fink Comix" artist Richard Kenneth Sloane (1949-2006). Sloane was a visionary artist who embraced the darker truths of life, a vision of a dark world where real evil, both human and metaphysical exists. As time passed, he attracted an ever-growing fan base and his work is prized by an ever-increasing number of fans and collectors. Art depicts a nightmarish decaying priest (whose maggot-infested head is on fire) standing over the severed lower torso and legs of a nude woman, whose internal organs can be seen spilling out onto bloody bed sheets. A ghostly face hovers at upper right and the priest is surrounded by four leprous chimpanzees, one wearing a fez. Art was created in 1989, around the time Sloane began working w/the band Guns N' Roses. Thanks in part to his work w/Guns N' Roses, Sloane established himself as a go-to artist, illustrating many Punk Rock album covers and flyers as well as "zine" covers and comic books. He collaborated w/such luminaries as Ed "Big Daddy" Roth (of Rat Fink fame), Jeff Gaither, Robert Williams, XNO, Joe Coleman, The Pizz, Todd Schorr and others, becoming one of the founding members of an art movement labeled "Low Brow," a tongue-in-cheek jab at the elitist "High Brow" art world. The artwork is signed by the artist at lower right, Sloane adding "89" date. Horizontal crease at center, but still displays Exc. as custom-framed under archival quality UV protective acrylic w/acid free mat.
