Item Description
Lot of 11 items for this rather obscure ©1948 cereal box insert card issue. Based on "The House Of Mystery" radio program, an old-fashioned storytelling session featuring Roger Elliot (played by John Griggs) who was a ghost-chaser and scientist of the supernatural whose experiences were supposed to prove that ghosts and the like were all just part of one's imagination. First item is 7.5x12.5" store shelf sign promoting the series of 12 cards that were issued one per box as well as the 12 matching box back story panels. Includes example card image and Mummy illustration from the first "Mystery" in the series. Some penciling on the top fold over portion, moderate age toning. Fine and Rare. Next are nine box backs, numbers: 1-4,7-10,12. Story titles are: The Mummy's Secret, The Teeth Of Death, House Of Terror, The Merman Of Coomballow, The Mystery Of Brian's Banshee, The Mystery Of The Clammy Ghost, The Ghost Ship Of Ardah, The Mystery Of The Crimson Dagger, The Mystery Of The Pointing Bone." All feature Roger involved in the "Mystery" and end w/him figuring things out but leaving the "Solution" to be revealed by the matching card. All margins trimmed a bit unevely but all stories are complete. Moderate wear and aging. VG to Fine. Final item is one of the cards, 1.5x25." Card #5 for "The Ghost Car" mystery. Originally had a tissue cover but as intended this was removed, moistened and rubbed over the card from to reveal the "Solution." Image remains distinct. Lt. aging, EX. Very interesting item for Non-Sports and cereal premium collectors.
