Item Description
Pair of 5.5x17" and 5.5x17.5" thin artboards w/original pen and ink art w/screentone shading accents on first strip. "The World's Greatest Superheroes" was a syndicated newspaper comic strip featuring DC Comics characters which ran Sunday/daily from April 3, 1978 to Feb. 10, 1985. It was syndicated by the Chicago Tribune/New York News Syndicate. Initially starring Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Black Lightning, it underwent several title changes, as the focus changed to primarily feature Superman. First strip is for Sept. 21, 1978 and is three panels long and features DC Comics villain Dr. Destiny in his laboratory in all three panels, creating "Telekinesis Drug." Strip was written by Martin Pasko w/art by George Tuska and inks by Vince Colletta. Second panel has ©1978 DC Comics paste-over as well as creative team paste-over. Margins have scattered blue pencil editorial notes. Exc. Second strip is for Dec. 21, 1979 and has three panels and features Lois Lane being attacked by wires as Perry White, Jimmy Olsen and Clark Kent look on. Perry is surprised to find Clark missing in last panel, as he has left to change into Superman. Strip was written by Paul Levitz w/art by Tuska and inks by Colletta. First panel has ©1979 DC Comics paste-over and creative team paste-over is in last panel. Margins have scattered blue pencil editorial notes. Exc. Tuska has signed in black felt tip pen at lower right on both strips.
