9x12" program w/16 pages. Published for 1939 New York World's Fair, cover features caricature nude African-American woman standing in front of Trylon and Perisphere buildings. New York's famed Cotton Club, which saw the rise of several popular jazz musicians and entertainers of the era would close the following year, in 1940. One entire page is devoted to Cab Calloway, whose orchestra brought its "Brown Sugar" revue to the Cotton Club in 1930, replacing Duke Ellington's orchestra after its departure in 1931, staying until 1934 and appearing off and on over the years. Calloway has signed below his image in blue pencil. Rest of publication is devoted to the club, it's organizers as well as performers, including Bill Robinson, Sister Tharpe, Katherine Perry, blackface comedians Glenn & Jenkins, Myra Johnson and "The Cotton Club Girls," featuring models in various stated of undress, including one model in sheer drape, revealing bare breasts. Program has moderate handling wear w/pinch creases to spine, which has some moisture staining along it. Front cover has vertical crease and scattered spots of soiling. VG overall, but Cab Calloway page is VF w/Exc. signature. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
