Item Description
2.25x4.75" thin paper ticket for 1899 "Buffalo Bill's Wild West And Congress Of Rough Riders Of The World" show. Originating in this form in 1893, the show began w/horseback parade, w/participants that included US and other military, American Indians, and performers from all over the world in their best attire. Turks, Gauchos, Arabs, Mongols and Georgians displayed their distinctive horses and colorful costumes. Visitors would see main events, feats of skill, staged races, and sideshows. Many historical Western figures participated in the show, including Sitting Bull, Calamity Jane and Annie Oakley. Performers re-enacted the riding of the Pony Express, Indian attacks on wagon trains, and stagecoach robberies. The finale was typically a portrayal of an Indian attack on a settler's cabin. Cody would ride in w/an entourage of cowboys to defend the settler family. Ticket has photo image of Cody and has stamped "2147" number. Printed text includes "Admit One Compliments Of" w/line provided, upon which Buffalo Bill Cody has signed "W.F. Cody" in pencil, granting admittance. Ticket is complete w/"1899" portion meant to be removed upon entrance. Left margin has 1/8" to .5" strip of aging, but this does not affect Cody image or signature. Fine overall, but signature remains Exc. An amazing signed Buffalo Bill Cody artifact. See items #745 and #1171. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
