Item Description
Lot of eight, including one tintype featuring American Civil War soldier. Carte de visites (abbreviated CDV) were a type of small photograph patented in Paris, France in 1854. Usually made of an albumen print (a thin paper photograph) mounted on a thicker paper card, most in this lot measure 2.5x4". All 1860s. Aforementioned tintype measures .75x1-1/16" and is mounted in gold foil frame to card. Included are Maj. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman (w/name in blue ink at bottom), Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, Maj. Gen. George H. Thomas, two of Gen. Quincy A. Gilmore, and Gen. James B. McPherson. CDVs have some even aging and scattered lt. edge wear. VF/Exc. overall.
