Auction #213 - Part II
Item numbers 1063 through 2753 in auction 213
Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated lid contains 7.5" tall toy depicting plush-covered bear w/fabric outfit seated at tin litho desk, tin litho telephone in one hand, a plastic pen in the other. Made in Japan by TN/Showa, 1950s. Box comes w/cardboard insert and has slight concave lid w/creases at corners, but remains free of splits and tight. Fine/VF overall. Figure is designed as if taking phone orders as text on one side reads "Don't Take My Pencil - It's A Bearish Market." Pad lights up and says "Magic Marxie". Hand w/pen moves as if writing. Phone rings. He lifts receiver and head nods w/voice, then replaces receiver. This toy was also produced and sold in a box marked Line Mar, though that box featured image of bear w/o clothing. This ties in w/the "Magic Marxie" light-up feature. This version is much scarcer. All actions work. Toy has some scattered tiny paint nicks/scratches at edges but Exc. overall. Great design.
