Item Description
Relief image of Lincoln in bronze plaque 7-1/8” wide by 9.5” tall and 3/16” deep. Front bronze sheet with image and text has flat bronze back cover held in place by six small screws as issued along with a moveable ring at top for suspension as well as a hinged thick bronze easel stand for table display. Brenner designed this piece in 1907 in anticipation of the centennial. Text below Lincoln reads; “Abraham Lincoln ** 1809 * 1865 **”. Lower right has sculptor’s monogram in an oval with date of 1907 below. Along the lower right edge, vertically, is text “ Copyright 1907 by V.D. Brenner”. This iconic bust image served as a prototype for the design of the Lincoln penny issued in 1909. Some small wear traces to the high points include a few small spots of darker bronze color off his hair and four very light hairline scratches on his shoulder. On the background a spot of darker color is off near upper left edge 1/8x3/8” with a very faint small rubs on the right background. Damage is quite minimal overall and we grade as very fine. This piece is both rare and popular with collectors and we’ve found multiple sales ranging from $1000.00 up to $3000.00. A modest opening bid.
