Item Description
2-1/8" x 5.5" two layer fabric ribbon with borders of fine stitching in light blue. Above Washington is angel with trumpet and "Pro Patria." Shown in Sullivan/Fischer as GW-20. Example shown in that publication is mounted to a silk sash with rosette below holding 1808 Washington Benevolent Society Of New York medal. Ribbon text specifies "City Of New York." Other versions like this example without sash, rosette and medal specify New Jersey, County of Columbia or have no inscription below GW. This unlisted version has "Washington Benevolent Society" below GW. Top left and bottom center edges have 5/8" stresses with some separation of the weave. Displays well and overall Fine. For the historical importance (c. 1808) and rarity of GW Benevolent Society Ribbons, we feel they are under appreciated.
