Item Description
"Major Bowes Amateur Hour" was an American radio talent show, and was one of the most popular programs broadcast in the US in the 1930s and 1940s. It was created and hosted by Edward Bowes. One of the most notable acts to audition was the Hoboken Four in 1935, which featured Frank Sinatra. Offered here is 18.5x18.5" gameboard w/central "Wheel Of Fortune" design as featured on show. Gameboard was issued w/o box and comes w/small cardboard box that contains complete parts for "Major Bowes' Amateur Hour Game - Popular Edition No. 1" by Warner Manufacturing Co. Contents include pair of dice, four cardboard shaker tubes and six wooden playing pieces. Both board (which has nice photo label of Bowes on exterior) and parts show aging but are o/w VF. Comes w/11x12.5x3.75" deep bronze luster white metal clock w/"Amateur Hour" name incised on base front. Clock design features Major Bowes at left w/his "Major Bowes Gong," trio of singers (one w/accordion) at "UMG" radio microphone and tuba player. United Clock Corp. Complete w/original cord, but clock needs a cleaning to work and bulb in tuba needs replaced. As is, clock still displays Fine.
